Kocchi:
>Genderbender points (we might have to do a group award for this
>one)
By a few days, you missed my listing of all the characters who
upset the concept of traditional gender roles/stereotypes one way
or another. . .or did you?
Shadow:
>2. "Jews are not a race and/or ethnic group."
I am fond of saying that Jewish is not a *nationality*, because I
hear people say things like "I'm half Irish and half Jewish".
However, the term "ethnic group" also applies to religions, so I
would never say that Jewish is not an ethnic group. As for it
being a race, I think it would be more accurate to use the term
Semitic. I know plenty of people who adhere to the Jewish
religion whose forebears are not from the Middle East.
Stephen:
>Don't forget that scene where Shampoo's in the restaurant and
>tears begin to appear...she claims that it's the onions, but I
>have a sneaking suspicion that it's something else entirely.
I told at least one person who was planning to watch that video,
"Just so you know, it was NOT the onions."
Technically, of course, that episode doesn't count since it was
anime-only. But the canonists are free to stay out of this
particular discussion if they prefer.
>She put on a brave face when Mousse decided to go back to China,
>but on the inside I'll bet she was a little saddened. They've
>been together since childhood...you don't honestly think that
>his leaving wouldn't affect her in some way deep down inside.
>Sooner or later she'd miss his attention.
She herself describes him as a "friend from childhood"--in the
manga as well as in the anime--so there must be something there.
A fondness that she tries to avoid expressing because it would
just set him off again.
Snapple Girl:
>Seriously though, are there any Ranma threads that haven't been
>discussed before?
Well, that's kind of a silly question to ask. Obviously we won't
be able to think of anything that we haven't discussed. . .
because if we did, we'd start discussing it, wouldn't we?
QuestionMark:
>>Ya, know I was just sitting around and thinking about something
>>concerning Moouse.
>It's "Mousse."
I've tried telling him that--in fact, the post went through twice
^_^O--but I guess it didn't convince him.
>Not many legitimate ones. ^_^ There's always stuff like "Who
>would get more phone numbers in a club," and "Who would look
>best in a kilt?" (Anyone remember who asked these two tidbits?
>^_^)
I know I asked the second one. Or my sister did. Wait! I
suggested that she ask it and she did. That's it. And then
someone chewed us out for trying to "Westernize" the characters.
Foster:
>That's because Kasumi's hair is definately brown....
Nuh-uh! In the manga it's black! Black, I say!
WAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
Ranma 3434:
><<It's "Mousse.">>
>I stand corrected. ^_^
At least for now. -_-O
Ruby:
>I bgan to wonder, what if p-chan ended in Nabiki`s room instead?
>Or better yet, what if p-chan ended up in Kasumi`s room that
>first night? I`d like that idea...
Hey, who was complaining about no legitimate topics to discuss?
Almost everyone? This looks pretty good to me.
First Of All: In neither case would Ranma come unglued, because
he wouldn't feel like there was any competition if Nabiki or
Kasumi got a pet.
Nabiki probably wouldn't coo over a piglet. I can see her calling
around town to find out who was missing a pet pig, hoping to get
a big reward. By the time she was done with her search, he would
have grown on her just enough that she would decide to keep him.
So she would start taking care of him properly, and that means a
bath. Whether she would then discover his identity would depend
upon whether there was already some hot water in the tub (Japan
fact: Hot water is seen as something of a precious resource by
the Japanese, who conserve by drawing a hot bath, which all the
members of the household then take turns using. They keep the
water relatively non-icky by showering off beforehand.), since
she wouldn't draw a new hot bath just for the sake of washing an
animal. She would probably find out eventually in either case,
and then have a minor tizzy out of surprise, but I don't think
the perversion aspect would come into play because she probably
wouldn't have her pet sleep in her bed. One thing is for sure:
she wouldn't be mushy enough for Ryoga to fall in love with her.
Very different scenario indeed, sirs.
The Kasumi scenario probably would not be much different,
actually. She would coo more, and run the risk of Ryoga
developing a crush on her, but she would also be more likely to
run hot water for the bath, thereby finding out about him sooner.
She would suffer some shock and embarrassment at the discovery,
and he would have an incentive to lose the crush ASAP.
