I get what your saying.  The best example of this would be Daigakusei no
Ranma.  This series has a lot of funny lines, but they would seem very
out of place in the original series.

Geez Louise!  School must last longer for you guys.  Our lunch only lasts
about 20 minutes.  And 10 of those minutes are spent waiting for the
casheir to determine how much change she should give back, and then
waiting for her to pick the correct coins out of the cash register.

Well, she's a bit young, but... ^_^

Hmmm...well, I only just got into Solaris, so maybe I'm not as far in the
game as I thought, but I don't recall a single instance of this
happening.  One of the reasons I like Elly is because she is one of the
few characters in the game (or in any RPG, nowadays) who remains
independent after meeting the protaganist.  Usually, characters get
"obsorbed" into the hero's party, which makes them less interesting,
usually, but Elly focuses on her own problems rather than the group's
common goal.  I guess the martyr thing comes later...

I think Ranma would make a better Bart.  After all, Bart is short
tempered and acts without thinking, which sounds like Ranma to me, and
Fei has a tendency to get depressed, though he still does stupid stuff
too, occasionally.  Tofu as Citan definately works; they're almost the
same character.  The closest character to Elly would be Ukyou, I suppose,
but even that doesn't work too well.
