<2. Occasionally I feel we (non-Japanese Ranma fans) overanalyze Ranma 1/2.
<Ranma is not amoung the serious mangas and anime in existence and perhaps

<see it on a deeper level than it really is.

I have often wondered about this myself, if Rumiko Takahashi ever meant
this series to receive the microscopicly detailed observation it gets. A
while back there was an almost endless series of mail regarding the
Mousse/Shampoo relationship that got incredibly heated at times and I
seriously doubt Takahashi ever intended her story to inspire that kind of
an arguement.
I personally find Ranma to be the series that is the richest in basic human
nature, and it includes characters that so many people actually care about.
I think the deeper level really is there. What I'm wondering is, was this
intentional or did the emotional quality work its way into the narrative
unconsciously? I ask, because from what I've seen of the early stuff, it
looks like the anime repeatedly tones down the more extroverted nature of
Takahashi's manga.
