If it's going that fast, it'll probably be all crumbled and powdery and
melted when it gets here. I'll probably have to settle for sprinkling
it over a bowl of ice cream. Not that there's anything wrong with
that...

They weren't targeted towards kids at all- they were originally shorts
shown between reels at the movie theatre. It was only a decade or two
later, with the advent of Saturday morning cartoons as a method of
babysitting, that kids were shown these things. Kids would not "get" a
lot of what went on.

This will probably start another thread with Ron and others talking
about all the intricacies of the Warner Brothers cartoons. I can't be
as detailed as they are, so I'm keeping this short.

A good portion of them are just slapstick violence, and as such just
kiddie food. There are some, however, that really are fairly scandalous
in their subject, or have deeper meanings in them. Problem is, it was
scandalous when they were made, but not now that our mores are
different. Also, many of the funniest references that they make are
lost on most viewers who weren't alive in the 40's - 60's, or don't know
a lot of history. (Not too many people can appreciate the stingy mouse
that was based on the comedian Jack Benny, or can laugh at Elmer Fudd
waiting on Humphrey Bogart's table)

I kinda prefer MGM's 2nd incarnation of Tom and Jerry myself.

I think this'd be a sleeper or cult classic, kinda like Blade Runner.
They both sorta deal with humanoid constructs trying to cope with their
lives, both are relatively uneventful and rely on mental impressions
rather than drama until the very end of the movie.

What I forgot to put in my last reply about airing Evangelion was that
the zealots would probably go into a teeth-gnashing frenzy over 'that
blasphemous Jap cartoon that mocks the Christian religion by using so
much religious terminology, and has man trying to equal God' (according
to the story in 'Tears' at least)

They'd probably also get Ranma cancelled because of all the nudity in
the first episode.

Princess Bride. That's usually what I think of when this topic comes
up.

There's something to be said for wandering around a dungeon, killing
everything you see.

I only intend to get FF7 because so many people are talking about it
and I want to see what the fuss is- it strikes me as too much of a
puzzle/thinking game for my tastes. I prefer the 'see it-kill it' genre
myself.

FF7 might be a great RPG because you actually see your characters on the
playing screen (instead of a portrait on a data bar) and it has good
music, but ultimately it's no different than the countless other RPG's
that have come before it- you have weak characters that you build up,
you have spells to learn, you have puzzles to solve, and a quest to
complete. Except for the presentation/graphics it sounds rather
standard.
