Sorry about how late (this replies) is. I'm "trapped" in Finals. Can't
wait ('til they're over!)
Anyone going to AX98 from out of state might have some time to check
these stores out (or at least the ones in the Los Angeles area ^_^ ).

Let's see...Frank asked:

>Now, I turn, as I have so many times before, to the ML for info. I'd
like all
>either mail, online, or real life, to post said vendors with some info
on

Let me list (the more prominent) vendors in which I've dealt with via
online, phone, mail, and personal (no particular order):

1) Nikaku Animart, San Jose, CA

http://www.nikaku.com

Visited the place whenever I'm going up to Silicon Valley up there. A
very good collection of anime-related merchandise. (Nikaku does online
orders and ships almost anywhere on the globe). I've never dealt w/them
online, but up in person.

I pretty much purchased my first Anime OST from them (BGC 1-3, 5-8, and
Voc 1; Macross Plus 1 and 2; Kor Movie, Ranma 1/2 Doco 2nd, Opening
collection, Ending Collection, Movie 3 and OVA collection) to name only
a scant few

2) Suncoast Video, Various, CA.

Here's where I acquire some of the (domestically) released anime. I
have access numerous (Suncoast) stores, but I usually go to the one in
the Glendale Galleria in Glendale, CA. and the one in the Universal
CityWalk in Universal City, CA.
Prices are reasonable but I can get them cheaper elsewhere (read-on).

3) Anime Expo (AX xx), this year Anaheim, CA.

I've been attending AX here in the Southland since 1994. (AX) is the
place to get deals on various anime-related merchandise.
I bought my Ryo-oki doll here et al.

4) UCI Anime, Irvine, CA.

http://www.book.uci.edu/anime.html

Another excellent online/mail-order place. They also have a store close
the the bookstore on UC Irvine's campus. Sorta wanted to take graduate
courses there because of the on-campus anime store ^_^. I go there from
time to time. (UCI Anime also has a booth setup at AX)

Though their CD prices are a little steep, their selection is good.

5) The Place, Fremont, CA.

http://www.the-place.com/

(Yet) another good online/mail-order place. I've only ordered two items
from them, but their service was great. I order the 1997 Taiho
Shichauzo Calendar (a great calendar). I received it damaged during
shipment. I e-mailed about the problem and they said that (the
calendar) was the last one they had in stock (considering it was
mid-1997 already). They therefore gave me $10 credit on the next
purchase from them. The Place has no secure online site, but you can
place the order via e-mail, wait for the reply (w/calculated shipping
charges included) and then you can either snail-mail the payment, fax
them the plastic information or call them directly to confirm your
order.

6) Bunkado, Little Tokyo, Los Angeles, CA.

340 E. 1st St., Los Angeles, CA 90012
(213) 625-1122

How I got to discover this gem of a store is anyone's guess. This is
where I got BGC 4 and Voc 2 (they don't sell them anymore; this was many
moons ago [1995]) and Marmalade Boy Voc 3.
A very good store with a good anime cd collection as well as a good
anime LD collection.

7) Kinokuniya Bookstores

123 Onizuka St., Suite 205, Los Angeles, CA 90012
TEL (213) 687-4480, FAX (213) 621-4456, Toll Free (800) 456-7828

This is where I get my Shonen Sunday subscription.
They have manga, cds, and anime.

8) Banzai Anime

2951 Sepulveda Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90064
TEL (310) 231-6080, FAX (310) 231-6082

This is where I get a huge chunk of my domestic anime from. Their
prices are usually $5 off SRP (ie Evangelion subbed, $29.95 @ Suncoast,
$24.95 @ Banzai). They also have anime ost's, wall scrolls, idol cards,
laminates, posters, et al. You name it (anime, or course) they'll
probably have it or are probably sold out of it (ie Slayers 6) or they
can probably get ahold of it. Banzai Anime also has a booth at AX.

9) Asahiya Bookstores

Yaohan Plaza, Suite 105
3760 Centinela Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90066
TEL (310) 915-6633, FAX (310) 915-6636

Like Kinokuniya, they have manga, anime cds, anime (mostly domestic).
This is where I purchased all of my Ranma 1/2 tankoubons (#1-38), all of
my Video Girl Ai (#1-15), and all of my Taiho Shichauzo (#1-7).

10) SnapJack the OTAKU shop

I've only dealt with this place once.

This establishment is based in Japan. Doi-san might know about it.
Unfortunately, it shut down for reasons unknown to me, but not until I
got the Ghost in the Shell original game sound track (from the
Playstation) Limited Edition from them.

Other Anime tapes are acquired via fansubbers from Aquarian, Hecto,
Shinsen Gumi, Arctic, and others.
