Hyuh? Syewht?
Read the first few chapters when Ukyou first meets, fights, then
works together with Ryouga.
I could see the seeds of a relationship in the making.
Sure, it was towards selfish ends, but both tried to help each
other....
I mean, I havn't read any Akari, but, well...
This brings me to another point.
We already know that Akane and Ranma are destined to be together,
right? With that aside, just think about some of the characters
approaches to each other.
Akane is far more caring (in her own way) to Ranma than he is in
return. Akane even tries to learn to cook (so to speak) to gain
Ranma's affection. Ranma's gestures in return seem to merley extend
to jelousy and protectiveness to Akane: Jelous and protective if
anyone threatens their relationship, but hard and uncaring to Akanes
feelings (not always, but as a rule).
Ryouga OTOH, is infatuated with Akane, and if he could say so, would
be the only person (that I know of) that could stand a chance for her
affections. Ukyou cares for and loves Ranma, and although he is with
someone else, and she would rather he was with her, she truly wants
him to be happy, and could probably be happy for him if he got
together with Akane.
My point (sorta) is just, when you secretly know Ran&Akan are
destined to be together, one can't help but feel sorry for characters
that are almost too good for them desperately trying to get their
attentions.
Somebody on anothe Ml made the same sort of comparison with Maison
Ikoku, (which I havn't read) that two male chars. are in competiton
for the affections of a female, but around about chapt 36, It becomes
clear that one of them is "destined" to be with the girl, and the
other has no chance. It becomes painful to watch his desperate
attempts for love that are doomed from the start, and one almost
resents the other male because of it.
I know the content of Ranma is more aimed at comedy over (or through)
romance, with romance being secondary, and wwith that in mind I
shouldn't complain, but...
