Sorry, but history is important. If we study it very hard, we can make the 
same mistakes better ^_^ . 

To be honest, how can you say that history isn't important. There is much to 
learn by looking into the past. 

As for movies, that's pop history. If you know pop history then you can make 
and understand snazzy references. I live for trivia, I'm not the best, but 
I'm working on it.
