Got this information from Toshi and Trish at Anime Expo...
Laserdiscs
----------
For those who haven't read rec.arts.anime, the Ranma 1/2 OAVs will be
released on laserdisc starting in November 1995. It will be CAV,
bilingual, and closed-caption subtitles. Word has it that the dub
script will be used for the closed-caption track due to time constraints.
No final word yet on liner notes...
Desperately Seeking Shampoo (OAV 1 & 2) will be out in November, with
Like Water for Ranma (OAV 3 & 4) in February, and Akane and Her Sisters
(OAV 5 & 6) in April.
According to the plans, The OAVs will be followed by the first two movies,
then the TV series. Every release will be CAV except for the TV episodes,
which will be mostly CLV.
As for the TV Series, the first LD will contain the first two episodes,
and there are plans to include a slipcase for the other 4 LDs with the
first LD (a la Macross Plus). The remainder of the LDs will have four
episodes each.
The LDs will be done by Lumivision, which isn't everybody's favorite LD
distributor at the moment. The LD arrangement will be reviewed after all
the OAV LDs are released to make sure that everything is satisfactory. (I
wonder how A.D. Vision and AnimEigo handle their LD releases)
OAVs
----
The first 6 OAVs will be released in subtitled format! We'll see the
first three OAVs in January 1996 and the 4th, 5th, and 6th OAVs in
February 1996. The OAVs will be packaged three episodes per volume.
More comment on the release version of "An Akane to Remember" (Ranma 1/2
Special) tomorrow...
The release of the "3rd Movie" (Ranma Team vs. the Legendary Phoenix) has
been pushed back 'til March 1996. It will be released as an OAV. Included
on this tape will be the first episode of Ranma 1/2 Super (the new OAV
series)
While we're on the subject of Ranma 1/2 Super...I saw the first episode
(well, a pre-screening copy) at Anime Expo. This turned out to be a lot
better than I expected. Lots of sight gags in this one. Should I give out
spoilers?
