Not quite.  I think the other one explained how, based on the picture in

Doesn't matter If you try to jump upwards, it has no effect on how fast
you move _forward_.  Forward momentum would be unchanged.  The
horizontal and vertical vectors in 2-dimensional motion are independent
of each other.  One of the most basic ideas in physics.  

The only way she would move like you said is if she deliberately slowed
herself down before jumping, which is a pretty strange thing to do when
you're chasing someone...

Geez, HK.  You gotta brush up on your physics if you want to stump an
engineering major.^_^
