Ted Wang asked if the oroshi from "An Akane to Remember" is based on a
real Japanese legend.

Yes!! It's based on the legend of the god Susanou, who rescued a young
woman about to be eaten by an 8-headed dragon, the oroshi. He did it by
getting the oroshi drunk on sake and cutting off its heads while it slept.

-Saotome Laura, legend-keeper of the Dragon.
