This proposal might be considered radical by some or possibly all of the
people here, but I wish to formerly request the creation of a membership
rule for the Ranma Mailing List, to be sent to each person when they first
subscribe:

Any person who posts a chain letter, unsolicited advertising, malicious or
deliberately cruel messages, or other acts designated by the majority of the
members of the ML to be unacceptable behavior, shall be, depending on the
particular circumstances, either stopped from posting to the ML for some
agreed upon length of time, or, permanentlyexcluded from the ML

However, an initial warning by the Moderator, sent via e-mail, may precede
more draconian steps if the circumstances indicate that that would be an
appropriate first action in the opinion of the Moderator, and/or other
members who communicate via e-mail with the Moderator.

The above proposal does not include "spamming", unless such behavior both
exceeds the tolerance of the other members of the ML and continues after
requests to desist have been made via e-mail with the offender(s).

The reason for this action on my part is simply a response to the content of
too many of the posts made on this ML recently, and the sheer number of
"unsubscribe"s that I've seen recently. As a rule, I dislike rules, unless
they serve a specific need which I think this proposal does.

Actually, I would be delighted if the membership decides that this is a
stupid idea, as long as the reasons behind my request for such a rule are
freely and publicly discussed and that some type of solution to the current
situation is achieved so that members don't feel that their only recourse is
to quit the ML.

If you feel an overwhelming need to flame me for this proposal, kindly spare
other people from seeing yet another stupid/rabid thread develop and flame
me by e-mail at "johnd@neosoft.com". In the unlikely event that you agree
with me on this matter, also please use e-mail to discuss this. I'm tired of
stupid, useless threads. I like the Ranma Universe, not ML ego-wars or
irratating, boring threads.

Your Turn.
