Yep, the ending theme is the first track on DoCo Second.

I believe the call is from the townspeople who are plagued by the
giant animals and are requesting help from the dojo. The old guy is
Shinnosuke's grandfather and he's hitting his grandson because
Shinnosuke always seems to forget who he is.  And the falling rocks
are traps set up for the giant animals by Shinnosuke who forgets about
them. And at the end of the anime the magic water that's keeping
Shinnosuke alive is disappearing.  

There is a translation of the manga(vol.25-26) in which the anime is
based on somewhere, but the site escapes my mind right now.
