Understood. Actually, that makes me wonder how well I'd get along in any
oriental society. I may be half-oriental myself but I was raised very
American.

Interesting point. But that's a sort of lopsided group to compare her to.
What I like about Akane is that, in comparison to most other role models
for young girls (and I understand Ranma is most popular in Japan with
12 year old girls), she's very atypical. She is, after all, an unfeminine
tomboy.

I didn't mean to imply that *everything* about her stories were
non-traditional. If they were, the stories would be less accessible.
It's that realistic aspect that makes them so effective.
