For the character polls, they only count the first 500 postcards.
(I think this is written somewhere in the fine print.)

Also for the presents..  I never won one in Newtype, but I won some
AnimeV ones.  About once every year.  (I've sent in hundreds all
together to various magazines and such.)  Oh, I also won other
stuff from record companies and such..  In any case, I think the
odds are less than 20 to 1.
