I think Lorelei is the name of the boss mermaid. Lorelei is taken
from German mythology, the name of a siren who lured boaters on the
Rhine onto a dangerous rock.

And, just to nit pick, Urd was using an electrical attack on Lorelei.
Urd's fire magic owns water magic, as we saw in "Another Me", the
chapter where World of Elegance appeared. Unless Lorelei is way more
powerful than Belldandy with Holy Bell, Urd's "Consume By Fire" spell
would have easily toasted both Lorelei and her water spells. 

I don't think the sisters were looking for a serious confrontation,
given the fact that they weren't using angels, though they were
dressed in battle gear. Lorelei is apparently a bit paranoid,
however, and escalated early.
