I 'love' the spin the writer put on it.. implying that cartoons are not just
being watched by children and 'geeks' .. but also by women... Yeah.. lets
not even try and confront the truth that a lot of men... not just geeky
men.. enjoy anime

**rolls eyes**

I'm sorry, but there is the typical condescending tone carried throughout
the article still smacks of the american viewpoint of looking at anime as
just "cartoons... and that cartoons are only for kids".
People need to be a lot more honest about things and stop trying to pretend
to be "uber cool" on the surface when they are just denying the underlaying
truth that they themselves are no where near as cool and sophisticated as
they are trying to pretend to be.

Though I'm not a fan of his.. I have to say this about Vin Desiel
(chronicals of Riddick and triple X) this is a guy that is totally down and
honest with himself and others. The guy knows what he enjoys, and he's
comfortable with it the way more people should be. Durring interviews he's
made it clear, he's a big D&D fan, still plays it... loves all sorts of
other "geeky" things because they're oool as far as he's concerned and
doesn't give a damn what others think of him for his personal likes. This
from a guy that you'd think to look at him is just one more of the vanity
crowd.

Me, I'm looking forward to the day that AMS! the xth movie plays in my local
movie theater, and it's not looked at as some kids show, but something you
take your girlfriend or family to see with you, or maybe when there's a
Miyazaki Studio Ghibli film showing in the same theater as the latest Disney
released animated tripe.

Don't get me wrong, it's an encouraging article... but hell, you could tell
by reading it, the author probably hasn't even watched anime. I mean the
devil hunter Yohko reference was a dead giveaway.. goblins? goblins?!...
Jees louise, if the author has watched a couple eps of the series she'd
know what it was actually about... maybe the author could then followed that
up by then watching a couple eps of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (which I must
add, won critical aclaim for it's "originality" here in the states) and draw
some serious comparisons. Maybe then she'd know where Joss Whedon stole the
ideas for this successful series from, Joss has even gone so far as to list
DHY as the inspiration for BTVS. Inspiration my you-know-what...it was
outright theft. Me, I'd just like to once have an article like this written
up by an author who actually watched a good chunk of anime... and not the
kiddy or porn garbage... and then wrote an article that said what they
thought of it.

Siskle and Ebert once reviewed Ghost in the shell in the original japanese
with subtitles.. both gave it an enthusiastic thumbs up for being a smart,
sharp, hard hitting and intelligent movie. not cartoon.. MOVIE. They saw
the difference, and commented on it. I just wish more reporters would see
the medium for what it is.. just another way to tell a story... the same way
that books differ from radioplays which differ from tv shows and movies.
Each is their own medium.
