I understand what you are saying and there are others like you in this regard. However,
the monthly manga market in America sucks. No one wanted to pay for it as it is just
too expensive. The monthly tankoubans @ $10 are what most folks want.

Now in Japan, Shounen Sunday comes out weekly, has quite a few titles (including "Inuyasha"),
and each week you get a book that's about as thick as half a large phone book. At
under ¥400 (I think the old one I bought was ¥280, which is about $2.75,
but I don't have it with me as I write this), they get more bang for their buck.
However, these publications are printed on cheap paper which saves costs (as do the
ads that are placed therein). They know that fans of "Inuyasha" (as an example) will

buy the tankoubans for keeping and toss the regular publication when they are done
(well, not all do, but they aren't designed to be kept like tankoubans are). And
then the tankoubans are under ¥500. All of my Japanese AMS tankoubans are priced
this
way (volumes 1-10).

So basically, the Japanese get their manga for much cheaper than do Americans. As
such, those markets can easily withstand weekly and monthly publications (along with
the cultural aspects, much like American boys growing up with American comic books)

whereas ours cannot based on present conditions. :-/
