Morgan is usually (though not always) represented as
Arthur's half-sister. She is said to have tricked
Arthur into sleeping with her, and their son, Mordred,
is the one who grows up to slay Arthur. In some
revisionist novels, Morgan was tricked herself and did
not realize it was her half-brother she was sleeping
with.

It's telling that this act of incest brings about the
fall of Camelot. Revulsion of incest is strongly
ingrained in nearly all societies. At the same time,
there is a fascination with it as well. Anime and
manga are full of incestuous infatuations, if not
actual incest itself.

In a larger view, Morgan is representative of ancient
England, full of fairies and dark magic, and Arthur is
representative of a newer England of Christianity and
progress. The attempt to comingle them brings about
the fall of both. In a manner of speaking, this really
did happen, since Arthur's time was approximately the
6th century, or about the time the Romans retreated
from England's shores. This is the beginning of
Europe's Dark Ages which lasted for about 1000 years.
