Despite what many anime fans will tell you, yes, to most people "otaku"
might as well mean "pervert". The actual term which translates as the
English language word "pervert" is generally "hentai", which
kanji-to-English could be translated as "weirdo". And "weirdo" is an
appropriate translation of "otaku" to many. Confused? :)
