I think I can supply a little bit more info.

It's two girls in TWO cars.

Actually, the website is http://www.ex-d.co.jp . The story is that in the future,
all private cars will be electric and powered by AIs. Alas, they sometimes go a little
screwy, and it's up to the eX-D crew to take 'em down. Our heroes are a couple of
cute girls who work for the eX-D. One drives a Subaru Imprezza (if you live in North
America, you don't know this, but the Subaru Imprezza Turbo WRX Sti, as sold everywhere
but North America, is one of the most ferocious performance cars on the planet. Oh,
why does Subaru of North America hate us so?) The other girl drives a Lotus Europa,
the first mid-engined sportscar from Lotus. The sounds of both cars are taken from
the Subaru and Lotus in Fujishimna-sensei's personal collection.

At the risk of speaking heresy, it sounds uncomfortably close to Bubblegum Crisis
to me. People rely on machines (AI cars/boomers), the machines go a little crazy from
time to time, and some cute girls (eX-D/Knight Sabers) come in and save the day.
