The first Superman movie, starring Christopher Reeve, is one of the best
films ever made. Really mythic. Better than Star Wars, I'd probably say.
Since as something of a modern classic these days.

It's sequel was OK, not as good but still in the good books. Number three
was an absolute travesty, burning down everything that was good about the
first one. The whole film was really just a Richard Pryor showcase. The
fourth felt like a TV show, well meaning but low budget and pathetic.

Interestingly enough my comic book fans HATED Chris Reeve's Superman, they
instead lauded "Lois & Clark" TV show as being a) good and b) truer to the
comic. After a little observation I worked out that they all just had a
crush on Terry Hatcher.

To my immense dissapointment, Kevin Smith's script for a new Superman movie
was killed by Tim Burton, who wanted Nicholas Cage (eww! He sucks!) to be
Supes. Since Kevin Smith is well good and the universe knows it, Burton's
Superman was then dumped by the studio. Hey Tim, eat it!

Let's face it, the best thing to happen in a Superman comic in the nineties
was Doomsday. "HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA!", "MT-RP-LS!" and other
memorable quotes (OK I admit it, I think I just listed his entire script),
Doomsday made me laugh like nothing in years.
