I watched "Taiho Shichauzo! the movie" yesterday (May 4th 1999), near the
end of Golden Week. It is show at several theatres (as opposed to Tenchi 2
which as far as I know is only shown in 2 theatres near Tokyo). I watched
the 7:00pm show at Toei Kaikan B1 (forgot the exact name of the theatre)
near Yurakucho.

I arrived at around 6:45. The theatre was not crowded at all. I guess
most people either watched it early or were away during GW. There was a
stand that sells Taiho goods there; those include the pamphlet (600 yen),
Telephone card (1000 yen), set of 3 postcards (400 yen), Mousepad (1500
yen), CD Lens Cleaner (1500 yen), Clear files and a few more. There was a
sign that says "Trading card is sold out".

Before the lights go out, the NITRO song was continuously playing and there
are annoucements that asks you to buy the CD...

Anime trailers shown were Utena and Akihabara Dennou Gumi movies. There
was one more but I forgot.

Then a full music video of NITRO's song was shown. With a lot of swimsuit
and body shots :)

THEN we get to watch the movie. (spoilers)

Natsumi and Miyuki is coming back to Bokuto Station after 1 year of
training. But something sinister is going on. The traffic lights are
going bonkers, causing no small disturbances all around the district. Some
serious crime was taking place, and even the Chief appears suspect.
Someone calls in with a bomb threat, and to prove that he is real a bridge
was blown up. But blowing up things turns out NOT to be his REAL motive...

The movie has quite a "Patlabor Movie" feel to it, although not as serious
and, shall we say, not as well thought out. (Criminals do not make backup
copies?) It is not heavy into humor (nor romance for that matter, though
there's a little), but is still rather light-hearted. There are a lot of
still-shots and they standout quite a bit (to the extent that you'll start
calculating mentally how much they saved on cels). On the other hand, the
action is good, and the plot is enjoyable (and gets really exciting towards
the end). Seeing everybody in Bokuto Station as their usual selves is fun.
Overall, I enjoyed it and I think you would, too.
