Well, I haven't heard anything for awhile on the list, so I guess I'll
start with on of those summaries that Earth Helper Goddess asked for.
You haven't gotten back to me with which chapters you need, so I'll star
t with Chapter 110, October Afternoon 1997. I haven't gotten my copy of
Vol. 18 yet, so I don't know if Ch. 110 is in it, but I bet it is. Like
I've said before, anyone feel free to correct my summaries where you see
mistakes.
Before I get to the summary, I just want to comment that I finally saw
the first LD of the SD Goddess series, and I think it's hilarious. This
is just more confirmation for me that Mitsuo Iwata is one of the coolest
male voice actors ever. Anyway, on the summary.
Chapter 110: What of That Which Exists in the Pass?
Even Machines Have a Voice to Communicate With
The issue starts out with K1 and Bell arriving at Chihiro's autoshop,
Whirlwind. She has a new kneeler motorcycle, like the one on the rear
inside flap of Vol. 16. Bell comments that it is cute and that it wants
to run. Of course, Chihiro agrees. Then K1 asks Chihiro when she plans
to put the bike in a race. She wonders why he asks. He tells her that
it's a racer after all, and that it doesn't have the necessary equipment
to be driven on public roads (headlights, blinkers, etc.). Chihiro then
realizes that she was only looking at how cute the bike was, and says tha
t not only is she weak towards kids and cats, but also to cute autobikes.
Next, Hasegawa shows up at Whirlwind just as Chihiro starts considering
making the bike compliant to standards. Crying, she starts to say, "semp
ai" and walks towards K1, startling him. She stumbles past him into Bell
's arms for comfort. K1 realizes that he should've expected that.
They ask Hasegawa what happened. She begins to tell a story of a ghost
that she saw while driving on a nearby mountain pass. The night before
she was up late doing an experiment. On the way home, she decided to tak
e a shortcut on the mountain pass. (I'm surprised she drives a stick)
In her rear rear-view mirror, she saw a light and assumed that it was a
late-night biker. As it sped past her, she realized something strange;
there was no sound of an engine running.
Chihiro suggests that it might have been a bicycle. But, Hasegawa was
going uphill. Chihiro continues to suggest that it could have been a "To
ur de France" level athlete. Hasegawa doen't think that would be likely.
Her main concern is that she hasn't been able to sleep well since then
and she worries about encountering the light again.
Bell, of course, tries to comfort her. K1 suggests that she exorcise
it or something. She comments that she doesn't really understand exorcis
m very well, then kisses Hasegawa on the cheek and says, "This is to help
you cheer up." This both confuses K1, as well as making him a little
jealous.
The next day, K1 and Bell consult Megumi about the ghost on the pass.
She says that she hasn't seen nor heard anything like that. But, as the
new "Queen" of the road (see Ch. 86-88), she calls upon her "minions"
for information. They all have different version of the story with diffe
rent levels of credulity. After "consulting" with them, she asks K1 if
the ghost is fast. K1 wonders if she isn't thinking of doing something
unnecessary.
The last page shows Megumi on her bike on the pass, ready to encounter
the ghost. Her last line is, "I guess I'm just gonna have to have it out
with you."
