IF is a doujinshi (hope I spelled that right) based on AMG, which means it
is a manga series done by someone other than the original author/artist,
usually without their consent.  It's tolerated pretty well, I think, and
some manga artists with their own creations got started by imitating
others' works. Some (not all) doujinshi are known for the "adult
situations" that the characters find themselves in.  Not all of IF is on
the "adult"  side, but that's pretty much what it is known for. 

(Actually, when I sent that "What if?" message, I didn't even think about
IF, and Mr. Cobb's response was somewhat confusing to me at first.)
