AMS is often very funny (though I don't think that's its primary purpose).
What it is not, however, is STUPID. Stupid works in Ranma (cross that:
Takahashi Rumiko in general, and plenty of other series) but not here.

And evil characters are neccessary in AMS why, exactly? The fact that in
general the nastiest characters are just Mara and Aoshima (who are not
exactly Mrs and Mr evil :) always gave the series a nice feeling, a change
from the Nasty Bastards R Us societies one normally finds in
films/manga/whatever.
