Actually it's the reverse.

Ataru can't give up the pretense of the chase because the alternative is
giving into Lum. (When has Ataru ever tried to hide this from Lum or lie
to her? Is there any promise she's forced from him that he hasn't kept?)

Belldandy doesn't put the same sort of pressure on K1, so he's not forced
to react.

What do you think of the marriage of Ataru's parents?

There's quite a number of things Lum could teach Bell. Notice how the
prospective mother-in-law is more accepting of the alien demon that of her
own child? Lum makes sure to embrace any earthly custom that will get her
in the good graces of Ataru's mother.

What will be the reaction of K1's mother when she learns that he's been
secretly living with a foreigner?

Lastly, who does Jariten turn to play the role of his father? Will he
ever admit this? (Compare with Skuld... ;-)

I expect to be sued by both Sony and the Hendrick estate for this one.
